New Norfolk, in the Derwent Valley, is approximately 35 minutes drive from Hobart. It has a decent sized shopping centre and a distinctly English character with some of the oldest homes in Australia. Until relatively recent times, the area was dominated by the hop-growing industry and New Norfolk still produces hops on a large scale. Now the Norske Skog paper mill at Boyer contributes significantly to the local economy.
