Taroona is situated 10-15 minutes from the city of Hobart and runs along the western shore of the Derwent River. This residential area, whose name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'seashell', has mainly developed since the 1930's with older style homes nearer the river while newer ultra-modern sections of the suburb have grown up the hills behind them. Taroona is a family freindly 'leafy' suburb with a bush backdrop, offering a primary and high school and efficient bus transport into the city.
