On the Hobart waterfront, famous Salamanca Place consists of rows of sandstone buildings (formerly warehouses for the port of Hobart Town) but now used as cafés and offices. Kelly's Steps, between two of the buildings, leads to the historic suburb of Battery Point. Salamanca Market is held each Saturday. Recent additions to the Salamanca scene are modern and ultra-modern apartment blocks offering moderately priced apartments as well as penthouses over the $2.0m price tag.
